United Nations: Response to PGA Baerbock

American man here. Very frustrated with President Trump for undermining the UN budget and withdrawing from key international organizations. Heartfelt appreciation to PGA Baerbock for her Green diplomatic genius and "glass half full" optimism. This said, maybe it's time for the PGA and SG to stop beating around the bush so much. If Trump's denial of climate change is an existential threat to humanity, call him out by name, reference the ICJ advisory opinion, and explain what the future "Nuremberg" reparations consequences are likely to be for Americans if they don't correct course. We need a UN with more teeth and more fighting spirit. On the other hand, UNRWA is a legal embarrassment and a moral mess. There are better ways to press for a 2-state solution than criticizing Israel over its legitimate frustrations with UNRWA. Maybe it would be easier to get a settlement freeze in the West Bank if UNGA does its long overdue job and reforms UNRWA. Last point: is it the position of UN Women and the PGA that Grossi should withdraw his nomination because he is a man and it's absolutely time for a woman, or is it rather your position that it's time for the best candidate to win, man or woman? You're sending a mixed message and it's painful to watch as a man. Set a red line as UN women and ask Grossi to step down if that is how you really feel, or cut us men some slack and don't turn a potential Grossi win into our collective moral failure. I'll support you either way, but you need to make your red lines clear as UN women. The SG is a tough job in a P5 field that is presently dominated by some very tough men. Are you saying that we need the next the SG to be a woman and should mobilize all of global civil society to that end in 2026, including with protests, or are you saying we really don't need the next SG to be a woman this time around, given the current reality, so that UN men should feel free to vote for a man and not try to do UN women any favors they don't need? Let's try to get this part of the debate out of the way early on.
