American here. Really looking for Sweden and the EU to keep the net zero 2050 rule of law torch burning. The EU is the green leader, and we have an AMOC collapse to be concerned about. Russia is a dinosaur in comparison. After Yeltsin, Russia put nuclear arms competition with the US above collective climate security and misdirected America, Europe and Asia in the process. Now we need Trump, Putin and Xi to agree to move forward on the CTBT and NPT. All three leaders should feel a strong interest to go down in world history not as predators, but as nuclear peacemakers. I don't think von der Leyen should settle for "freedom." The EU needs to claim the mantle of net zero 2050 rule of law "leadership". Don't fight for anything less, even if net zero is radically aspirational.
