NATO and Russia Are Each Half Wrong About Ukraine
7:29 PM Monday.
I am praying that the UK and France will hold the line at the UN Security Council and veto any draft resolution that affirms the illegal annexation of Ukrainian territory by Russia. The UK and France should instead be circulating a draft proposal to the Council that recommends Ukraine and Russia subordinate their competing territorial claims to the jurisdiction of the ICJ for a final solution. Let the UN General Assembly respond to a Russian veto of that. Since NATO was half wrong about its open-door policy for Ukraine, and Russia was half wrong about invading Ukraine, maybe each side should pay a fair share of the reconstruction costs.
Domestically, I would like to see the House and Senate vote on a non-recognition of Russian annexation of Ukrainian territory bill. The American people want a fair deal between NATO and Russia, but they do not want President Trump to appease President Putin and tear up the UN Charter by agreeing to illegal annexation. A referral of the case to the ICJ is consistent with allowing Russia to occupy and administer the districts it claims as part of a peace agreement.
End 7:52 PM.
