Albanese to Netanyahu: Step Down Already and Do Teshuvah for October 7 Before You Start Throwing Stones at Australia
6:38 PM Monday.
Also noting Australian PM rejects Netanyahu’s linking of Palestine recognition to Bondi beach attack | Bondi beach terror attack | The Guardian, here is my comment on EMERGENCY EPISODE: Deadly Attack in Sydney | with Nomi Kaltmann, Jeremy Leibler and Nadav Eyal:
"My heart breaks for the Jewish community in Australia. Israel and America need a strong Australian Quad partner, and some of us are not sure Albanese is up to the job. On the one hand, he has arguably been much too weak at policing and preventing domestic antisemitism. On the other hand, he should have enough spine to tell Netanyahu to step down already, allow a State Commission of Inquiry, and show some teshuvah for his role in the October 7 security failure before throwing stones at Australia. Center-left needs to toughen up. Is the problem now faced by Jews in Australia more the fault of the failed policies of the Australian left under Albanese or the failed policies of the Israeli right under Netanyahu? It's an important security debate. I don't know which side should win, but I do know that a weak center-left won't help Netanyahu stay on course. We need the Israeli left and the Australian left to work better together. They are allies in a common cause. Phase 2 of UNSCR 2803 means Palestinian state-building. Palestine is obviously not there yet. Albanese should emphasize the Palestinian reforms that Australia is demanding as a condition of recognition."
End 7:13 PM.
