Should I Let Go of My Zionist Friends?

8:46 AM Sunday.

I was looking for a few minutes of relaxing morning music on YouTube when this video caught my eye: Harvard Hillel Update: Campus Leaders Respond to Crimson Ethicist. I watched the video, then read the original article in the Harvard Crimson: Ethicist, Should I Let Go of My Zionist Friends? | Opinion | The Harvard Crimson. I thought about it for a while, then composed a comment for Rabbi Jason. Here is what I said:

I am concerned, Rabbi, that you have mischaracterized the way a valid ethical dilemma was skillfully handled in "Should I Let Go of My Zionist Friends?" I am a Gentile two-state Zionist who believes that San Remo appropriately promised the Jews all of Palestine. This said, I support ICJ and ICC due process at the end of the day (though both courts need reform, in my view).  The ICJ and ICC cases against Israel and Netanyahu are grave and plausible. For this reason, it is entirely appropriate for Harvard students to wonder if they should remain friends with those Zionists who deny the profound moral and social dilemma these legal cases create for the Harvard community. I think a better approach for Israel and for Hillel - an approach less prone to backfire - is to validate the deep moral concerns of Harvard students who are abhorred by the thought of associating themselves with those Zionists who refuse to acknowledge the gravity and plausibility of these cases. On this foundation, Israel and Hillel should expect Harvard students to listen critically and empathically to both sides until the Courts finish their work. For what it's worth, I think the genocide case against Israel will be tough if not impossible to prove, and likewise the indiscriminate targeting of civilians by the IDF, but disproportionality of some Gaza operations may be a different matter. Thanks for your teaching. Argument for the sake of Heaven, and for the future of Zionism.

Maybe Rabbi Jason will provide some further instruction on this point.

End 8:53 AM.

Rabbi Jason has not replied to my comment, but someone else has - David. Here is the thread:
