Senate Consent for US Withdrawal from the World Health Organization?
I'd like to observe a Senate hearing on US withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO) with four expert briefers: one defending Trump's unilateral withdrawal power, one contesting Trump's unilateral withdrawal power, one defending the strategic merits of withdrawal, and one contesting the strategic merits of withdrawal. I understand this would fall under the purview of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Until I hear from the Senators on this committee, I won't really be able to understand the majority's basis for withdrawal. Liechtenstein is the only other UN member state that is not part of WHO. Even North Korea is part of WHO. Maybe US withdrawal is the best way to proceed, or maybe it is a strategic miscalculation of the highest order. Indeed, I am surprised that it is now July of 2025 and there doesn't already seem to be a consortium of Democratic Attorneys-General suing the federal government for endangering public health by blocking their states' cooperation with WHO.
